Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director - Construction Casualty

<div><h3>Overview</h3> <p>Zurich is seeking an experienced Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director, Construction Casualty to join our Specialties Accounts team. The role can be based in any Zurich Western region office, with flexibility for remote candidates located within the Western market, subject to hiring manager discretion.</p> <h3>Responsibilities</h3> <ul> <li>Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating annual rules.</li> <li>Develop, maintain, and collaborate with Line of Business representatives on referrals and other business related needs.</li> <li>Provide guidance to lower level associates.</li> <li>Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support business retention and acquisition, and work with customers and distributors to determine their insurance related needs and provide solutions.</li> <li>Support the sales culture by being a Help Point for agents, brokers and customers.</li> <li>Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.</li> <li>Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.</li> <li>Qualify accounts to meet the organization's appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity.</li> <li>Make broker/customer and on‑site calls with a planned and well‑prepared purpose.</li> </ul> <h3>Basic Qualifications (Executive Underwriter, Construction Casualty)</h3> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR</li> <li>High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area, OR</li> <li>Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR</li> <li>Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area, AND</li> <li>Knowledge of Microsoft Office.</li> <li>Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.</li> <li>Experience working in a team environment.</li> </ul> <h3>Basic Qualifications (AVP Underwriting Director, Construction Casualty)</h3> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR</li> <li>High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area, OR</li> <li>Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR</li> <li>Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area, AND</li> <li>Experience with Microsoft Office.</li> </ul> <h3>Preferred Qualifications (Both Levels)</h3> <ul> <li>Bachelor’s Degree.</li> <li>Technical knowledge of Construction Casualty Underwriting including Loss Sensitive Accounts and Wrap-Ups.</li> <li>Established broker relationships (retail brokers) within the Western region.</li> <li>Sales execution mindset.</li> <li>Creative problem solving skills.</li> <li>Strong verbal and written communication skills.</li> </ul> <h3>Compensation</h3> <p>The combined salary range for this position is $100,000.00 - $215,000.00. For the Executive Underwriter, the proposed salary range is $100,000.00 - $165,000.00 with Global Specialty Incentive Plan bonus eligibility set at 30%.
