Job description
<p><strong>OPPORTUNITY:</strong></p><p>We are seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgeon to join our hospital-employed practice. The ideal candidate will be fellowship-trained in sports medicine with expertise in shoulder and knee arthroscopy, and an interest in expanding services to include elbow and hip arthroscopy. This is an excellent opportunity to grow a high-demand sports medicine program within a well-established orthopedic group supported by a strong referral network.</p><p><strong>COMPENSATION:</strong></p><ul><li><strong>Option #1: </strong>Base salary of $685,202* (50%tile MGMA for those just completing training) with additional compensation for experience, guaranteed for 2 years. Can be switched to a wRVU production contract when exceeding target. </li></ul><ul><li><strong>Option #2:</strong> Base salary of $908,411* (75%tile MGMA) guaranteed for one year and then switched to a wRVU production contract.</li></ul><p><strong><em> * </em></strong><em>5% less for those not yet boarded, salary adjusted accordingly upon board certification</em></p><p><strong>2-year contract also includes:</strong></p><ul><li><strong>Vacation:</strong> 29 PTO (paid time off) days. Additional 5 days PTO when producing 75%tile wRVUs.</li><li><strong>CME/Books & Journals</strong>: 5 days PTO and up to $5000</li><li><strong>Deferred compensation: </strong>457b plan. Defer compensation up to IRS limit of $23,500 year before taxes. No matching.</li><li><strong>Retirement / Savings Plan: </strong>403b plan. Defer compensation up to IRS limit of $23,500 year before taxes under age 50 and $31,000 for over age 50. SOMC matches dollar for dollar up to 2% of base pay.</li><li><strong>Moving Expense</strong>: $10,000 paid to moving company</li></ul><ul><li><strong>Malpractice Insurance Coverage:</strong> in a claims made insurance, in an amount of $2,000,000, per claim/$6,000,000, aggregate</li><li><strong>Health Insurance: </strong>physician pays small premium, deducted from paycheck</li><li><strong>Liquidated Damages</strong>: 70 mile and 2 year non-compete clause or liquidated damages of one year salary</li></ul><ul><li><strong>Bonus Incentives: </strong>excellent bonus incentives up to 10% of salary</li><li><strong>Medical School Loan Repayment: </strong>repay up to $200,000 ($25,000 per year for each year of service commitment)</li><li><strong>Sign on Bonus: </strong>15% of base salary up to $100,000 (paid when contract signed and forgiven over 2-4 years depending on amount of bonus)</li><li><strong>Residency/Fellowship Stipend:</strong> Up to $25,000 paid in quarterly payment during final 2 years of training</li></ul><p><strong>PRACTICE INFO:</strong></p><ul><li><strong>Practice Location</strong></li></ul><ul><ul><li>SOMC Orthopedic Associates</li></ul></ul><ul><li><strong>Office Hours/Work Schedule</strong></li></ul><ul><li>Monday-Thursday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM</li><li>Friday: 8:00 AM - 11:30 AM</li><li>No evening or weekend office hours</li></ul><ul><li><strong>Staffing</strong></li></ul><ul><li>6 providers, 8 clinical staff (CMA, LPN, Ortho Techs), 4 front office, 2 surgery schedulers, radiology, and athletic training support</li></ul><ul><li><strong>Call Schedule/CERP (if applicable)</strong></li></ul><ul><ul><li>Call is 1:4</li></ul></ul><ul><li><strong>Case Load</strong></li></ul><ul><li>25-40 patients/day in clinic</li><li>Office procedure volume varies. Joint injections, aspirations, pin removals, cast application/removal</li><li>4-8 procedures/day in hospital</li></ul><ul><li><strong>Sports Medicine:</strong><br />Opportunity to lead and grow the sports medicine service line. The ideal candidate will perform advanced procedures such as:<ul><li>Shoulder and knee arthroscopy</li><li>Complex ligament reconstruction and/or revision</li><li>Meniscal debridement and repair</li><li>Chondroplasty and cartilage restoration</li><li>Rotator cuff/labral repairs</li><li>Additional procedures such as elbow and hip arthroscopy would be welcomed additions</li></ul></li><li><strong>Trauma:</strong><br />SOMC manages a steady volume of community trauma. While we are not a designated trauma center, we treat:<ul><li>Long bone, periarticular, pediatric, periprosthetic, and hand/foot fractures</li><li>Proximal humerus and hip fractures are especially common</li><li>Most open fractures and complex pelvic/acetabular trauma are referred out</li></ul></li><li><strong>Joint Replacement Surgery:</strong><br />Opportunity to perform primary and revision joint arthroplasty including:<ul><li>Knee, hip, and shoulder replacement</li><li>Collaboration with a fellowship-trained arthroplasty specialist</li><li>Elbow arthroplasty could be a valuable addition to our offerings</li></ul></li></ul><p><strong>(Practice Profile Information)</strong></p><ul><li><strong>Hand Surgery:</strong><br />Current services include:<ul><li>Carpal and cubital tunnel release</li><li>Compression neuropathy management</li><li>Soft tissue mass excisions and thumb CMC arthroplasty</li><li>Opportunities to expand into flexor tendon repair, Dupuytren's contracture management, and ligamentous wrist repair</li></ul></li><li><strong>Pediatrics:</strong><br />No inpatient pediatric cases. Outpatient pediatric sports procedures desired, including:<ul><li>Arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder</li><li>Patellofemoral realignment</li><li>Chondral lesion management</li><li>Fracture care and benign lesion excision</li></ul></li><li><strong>Foot & Ankle Surgery:</strong><br />Most procedures currently handled by in-house podiatrists, though orthopedic collaboration is welcome, especially in:<ul><li>Ankle arthroscopy</li><li>Ligament repair/reconstruction</li><li>Chondral lesion management</li><li><strong>Spine:</strong><ul><li>No spine surgery performed in-house. Cases referred to regional neurosurgeons, supported by on-site pain management services.</li></ul></li></ul></li></ul><ul><li><strong>Equipment</strong></li></ul><ul><ul><li>Office: Cast saw & x-ray</li><li>Hospital: Computers in every room, CPMs, patient lifts, air mats for safe patient handling, Hana table, Wixon, Beach chair, peg board positioning devices in surgery.
