Job Summary
The Private Client Services Senior Manager is responsible for providing tax and consulting services to our high net worth clients.
Job Duties
- Performs Tax planning, preparation and research for high net worth individuals and related business, trusts, estates, and charitable entities, including preparation and review of gift tax and estate tax returns.
- Manages client engagements, supervises and reviews work of team staff members, works closely with clients as well as internal managers and partners.
- Contributes to client satisfaction by providing timely services and work product.
- Demonstrates an understanding of tax concepts and actively pursues increased tax knowledge through client assignments and current tax developments.
- Tax Compliance
- Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens.
- Ensures self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual ("TQM").
- Conducts top level review of tax returns and resolves all tax issues with the client; involves specialists where appropriate.
- Plans and reviews the tax process and the procedures to be performed, including budgeting and staffing, monitoring engagement process and time vs. budget, timely billing, managing out-of-scope activity, timely collection of A/R, managing client relationships and expectations, and providing timely advice to clients.
- Research
- Identifies when research is needed and performs such research; frames issues and reports findings clearly and concisely.
- Applies firm and professional standards for preparation of WTA and tax returns.
- Involves firm specialists as appropriate.
- Strategy Development
- Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel (e.g., by reducing taxes or expenses or providing non-tax benefits).
- Reviews studies of tax implications and offers clients alternative courses of action.
- Identifies and leverages lessons learned on prior projects and offers input on how to improve processes and methods.
- Other duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Responsible for building a team of professionals by training and working together to serve our high net worth clients with timely responses to their needs.
- Supervises associates and senior associates on all projects.
- Reviews work prepared by associates and senior associates and provides review comments.
- Trains associates and seniors how to use all current software tools.
- Acts as a Career Advisor to associates and senior associates.
- Schedules and manages workload of associates and senior associates.
- Provides verbal and written performance feedback to associates and senior associates.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or other relevant field required.
- Master's degree in Accounting or Taxation preferred.
Experience
- 8 or more years of public accounting experience preferred, i.e., working in the private client area and on individual, estate, trust, partnership, S‑corporation, and private foundation tax/consulting clients.
License/Certifications
- CPA certification required.
- Certified financial planning license or Professional financial planning license preferred.
Software
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
