Physician Position Overview
As a Primary Care Physician, you will work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team, including other physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and support staff. Together, you will deliver comprehensive and coordinated care to veterans. Strong computer skills are essential, as NCHCS utilizes a fully computerized system for documentation, order entry, and consultation requests.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate care for a panel of outpatients as assigned by NCHCS.

  • Evaluate and treat acute and chronic health conditions for both scheduled and unscheduled patients in the clinic.

  • Conduct histories and physical examinations.

  • Provide thorough documentation, including history, physical exam findings, diagnosis, care plan, and patient disposition.

  • Ensure patients are appropriately closed-out, with clear documentation of next steps in care.

  • Provide each patient with a list of current medications and updated appointment lists at close-out.

  • Perform office procedures within approved privileges.

  • Prescribe medications as indicated.

  • Order routine laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic tests; interpret initial results and communicate findings to patients.

  • Initiate and expedite consultation and special test requests.

  • Screen patients to determine the need for hospitalization.

  • Serve as a preceptor for residents and medical students in the clinic setting.
